Concrete decision to remove nuisance dumpsters
A week into being a "dumpsters free" community, all appears well at Palermo Palm Springs. Gone are the days seen in the picture above. The dumpster area walls have gone tumbling down and are history as well. Miss Penny Lane says: She's ready for a weekend of fun at the pool. Give her a wave when you see her there.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say. Wish we were down this weekend.
I am so glad the dumpster are gone. This was a great move for the board. Speaking of the board, the recall election is Monday night at 6 PM. Everyone is welcome and should attend to show support to those they voted into office.
I think we need a board of directors who will make hard decisions to improve the economics of our community, and then we all need to stand behind them if there are complaints.
Can you remind me again what days do they pick up for recycling?
Recycling is picked up on Thursdays unless it is a holiday week. All trash pickup is a day late during a holiday week. Remember, all trash needs to be placed in cans and not left in bags in front our your residence.
Normal service is - Monday (trash only - brown can) and Thursday (trash and recycling - brown and blue cans).
the areas look really nice now w/o the dumpster. Good job. I am thankful.
Right decision. Right time. Nuf said.
So what do the visiting residents do with their trash on Sunday when they leave Palermo? This only works for the full time residents. If you fly in from out of town you have no where to put your trash when you leave.
What fo the part time residents do whith their trash when they leave on Sunday? If you fly in for a weekend you have no place to put your trash. This is a problem
If you are a part time resident what do you do with your trash on Sunday when you leave. If you fly in to visit there is no place to put your trash. this works okay for full time residents.....
A lot of the part time residents have a concierge service that will take care of the trash issue. Jason, who is a renter at Palermo offers this service in addition to cleaning and checking units for part time owners. He will also feed pets, if needed. Also, Perry's son offers this service and will put your cans out and return them after pick up. Some of us have made friends with our neighbors who are more than happy to watch our places and take the trash out. This is a great community with so many people willing to help.
To 225, you do the same as the people who (most) live in condo places with only curbside, or you do the same that vacation people in single family homes do. You take care of it. Not a problem - people across the desert deal with it.
The weekender "problem" is a red herring in that recyclables can be washed and stored for long time in the blue bins. The amount of real trash generated over two days is small.
glad they are gone. the weekenders just would fill them up even if they were full already
Hello everyone,
This is Perry, Gavin’s dad. He is eight years old I am trying to teach him money and responsability. He is offering trash can service. I think he charges a $1.50 per week. He also does other little odd jobs. Please email me at pstamas@live.com and I will have him stop over call you and strike a deal
Neat idea. We will contact when back down there towards the year's end.
I personally am so glad these eyesores were gone. I do wonder what the short-term weekender renters on Sunburst and Sandy will do with their trash (food remains, recycable cans, cardboard & other junk). It is the responsibility of the owners to make sure thee weekender know the rules. I trust they will. But all in all this was another good step in the right direction for Palermo and am thankful like the vast majority of owners who showed their total support that we have a board of directors of the association who are being proactive.
Why not just take your old Coca Cola cans and used cardboard and just make it into modern art.
I'll be calling Gavin. Thanks for stepping up to this community spirited and entrepreneurial opportunity :)
I just started using my cans and I love it. Makes me feel more like a home than an apartment complex type of thing.
