Year in review: Community rallies around HOA board

Continuing our year in review, the No. 8 story of 2012 was the way in which the Palermo community or owners and renters came together to support the Palermo Palm Springs HOA board in the summer. A board "recall" attempt — dubbed a so-called "takeover" attempt by some — ended up backfiring with the community rallying around the four individuals holding the board leadership positions, who were all re-elected and even in some cases given longer terms. The election saw nearly everyone vote. Miss Penny Lane says: She's like to recall this cool weather.

Thanks for this review and the year 2012 will be remembered has the "do something" year at our Palermo, with all the got done and all that was worked on. I see the four officers have been called our Fab Four and this dream team was something we got with the special star aligning up in 2012. These people have class class class. I have never heard one of them complain about the nasty nasty nasty attacks on them from Facebook, a repugnant page filled with slander. But I will say that I never thought about the impacts of that page on other people running for our board and it makes senss, though, right, why would other people put themselves up for such a possible ill treatment and lies. I do not think anyone should hold their breathe for an apology, as that would be too classy.

I think we all have to remember that a board position is voluntary. I keep hearing about homeowners contacting board members for every little thing that bothers them about Palermo. People, this is what we pay a management company for. I have also heard that the continuous calls, coming to the door and emailing current board members is making most of them reconsider running in the next election. What will that leave us with? 3 open positions and 3 new board members. I'm not sure that's a good idea. The current board has really made a change at Palermo and cares. Stop contacting board members and contact the management company or the police if the situation warrants. Follow the rules. No one is exempt from violations.
