Those newly painted red fire hydrants

A man came through the other day and painted all our yellow fire hydrants red. Word is that the HOA paid up to $700 for the repainting even though it was the developer that painted them yellow in the first place. Hydrants in the undeveloped Phase Two also got a new color of paint. Others say the fire department is to blame for the confusion.

This was mandated by the Palm Springs Fire Marshall.

HI everybody, I'll just repeat my response as with the fire extinguishers:

Of the question about the hydrants repainting to red, I think people are wondering why the board agreed to foot the bill rather than have the builder pay the cost. If the repainting was needed, it was needed, but it's a developer issue. The board must be good fiscal stewards, and that might mean at times sticking up to the developer reps. Developer reps on the board must recuse themselves from such decisions because of a conflict of interest. That's just basic.

In fact, didn't Scott, to her credit, say the hydrant repainting was a developer issue at the last board meeting, but the board members ignored her. That's what I heard from some others.

Penny Lane, thank you so much for providing this forum. The new board campaigned about better communication then promptly cancelled the community newsletter. It is are only way to communicate now.

Left unanswered is whether homeowner money went to pay for the repainting of the hydrants in the undeveloped property not owned by the HOA.
