The management company has sent out a new
sletter that an owner was kind enough to email to Positively Palermo. We will highlight some on the topics in it over the next days. The first involves cars parking in the fire lanes. All Palermo's streets are categorized as fire lanes. The newsletter states that there will be towing and that the HOA has been put in notice that the city may fine it if this dangerous parking in the fire lanes doesn't stop. Here's the article from the newsletter: "The Palm Springs Fire Department has determined that all streets within Palermo are fire lanes. The streets in the community are very narrow and if a vehicle is improperly parked, there is a risk that an emergency vehicle will not be able to pass your vehicle. The Palm Springs Fire Department has completed random inspections of the property and have found that residents are still parking in the streets. The association has been put on notice that fines will be assessed to the association if this does not stop. Therefore, the Board has requested Coachella Valley Security to immediately tow all vehicles that are illegally parked in the streets. Further, the Board will be holding hearings and fining owners who are in violation of the parking rules. Please note the first fine could be up to $250.00." Miss Penny Lane says: Her car was towed once when she parked illegally on an emergency visit to get her nails done. She learned her lesson as the fine crimped her wardrobe budget for months.

More problems tonight. Car parked in the fire lane across from 3661 Melody Lane. Another parked in the driveway but sticking way out into the fire lane at 3541 Melody Lane. The one across from 3661 Melody Lane is right near the bend in the road - very dangerous. Will these be towed?
It was back in August or September that they said a neighborhood watch was starting - what happened to that I ask?

Hello Everyone, This is Perry and I am the one that wanted to start up the neighborhood watch. I have been trying to get the comunity together and get the neighborhood watch started but I got two people that were interested in getting involved. As a result I had put that on the back burner. There have been a few things I have seen in the posts that a neighborhood watch would of been able to help with. I wanted it to be for crime watch as well as general safty of the comunity. I sent emails, talked to people and had Brandy sent out emails and had it posted on this blog. However I did not get any responce from all of those emails. I am willing to get it started but need some back up here. If this is to be a tight comunity people are going to have to start getting involved more.
Parking was a huge problem this weekend particularly at the corner of Sandy Point and Melody - from someone living on Melody I think from the party going one night.
Also why do I have to look at an ugly commercial truck with tattoo junk on it from my street and it's being washed in the street too. VPM renter, so should know the rules, right if he signed 20 page list of rules?

More problems at the corner of Melody and Sandy Point this weekend, parking right in the street at the intersection. I think some seasonals or guest are in a place on Melody Lane there.
According to the Fire Marshall, it is OK to park in the driveways as long as the car does not extend over the blacktop. I don't think this is the policy of the HOA (I hear they want you to park further into the driveway), but they need to justify it for another reason - the Fire Marshall is OK with it.
Actually the above isn't true. The city is the one that has said in writing that there must be 24 feet clear or the HOA WILL BE FINED $500 per violation. It was a condition on getting the building permit to construct Palermo. The "fire marshal" may not be aware of it as he is brand new. Additionally, there is a 22 foot driveway rule - only driveways 22 feet long are allowable to park in. The 22 foot driveway rule is separate from the street rule, and is part of the CC&Rs that are enforceable. The 22 foot rule doesn't require any city or state law to be enforced - it was put into the property restrictions that all must abide by. Changing the CC&Rs is hard to do and requires legal counsel (expensive). The illegal parking on Sandy Point is getting out of hand and I can't wait to the HOA begins towing, especially the ones exterior side of Sandy Point, as you are bringing down property values. Some of the illegal parkers are from that illegal weekend rental on mid-block Sandy Point.
one more thing: I rent here and have for awhile but I care about the appearance of this place and my community I live in. I plan to be here a long time and love my out of town landlords.
