HOA stung over wasp problem

Wasps are a problem again. Positively Palermo received two e-mails that in part read: "I write this after being chased out of our pool and yard for the umpteenth time by wasps. This can't continue. The owner of our own pest control company is coming over tomorrow to give us an estimate on the entire complex to find and destroy every last nest, including the ones in yards and on sun decks. We are so mad right now that our HOA and HOA pest control company can't and won't get this wasp issue under control ... Something is wrong when an owner has to take on the responsibility to get the issue of this resolved ... Who is our pest control company and what are we paying them each month/year? Why can't they find and destroy nests??? We have owners running around finding and destroying nests at the risk of getting stung. These people are not experts and they can't find all nests. Why can't our pest control company do this and why can't they go into yards?" Miss Penny Lane says: These are stinging questions!

This was brought up by a board member at the last meeting about spraying.

The HOA board is a joke - for 2 years they have not listened.

Are the VPM props being taken care of okay? They seems to be causiing problems like unregistered cars on Sandy and bees.

I have not seen one wasp.....and I am here full-time, so unsure where which area this is arising from.

Sadly, I know the board follows their own agenda and not the concerns of the property or homeowners. They are well aware that DRM is not performing well for us however quite frankly these issues that seem to always pop up on here should not be board matters but handled by DRM on a regular basis. I do fault the board for not firing DRM at this point in our relationship for non-performance.

To 10:23, do you have a pool? They are attracted to water. There were 2 or 3 in our pool constantly on our last visit. I agree on your comment about DRM.

Try this: put a couple pieces of raw meat on thin skewers and put them about an inch above water in a bucket filled almost to the top with water. They eat the meat until they are full but when they try to fly away they fall into the water because they are heavier than when they started eating. It sounds really goofy but you will get hundreds of them. Old trick I learned working at a restaurant with an outdoor patio.

I agree this is not a board issue, it is the boards issue to replace a company like DRM ifthey feel they are not working up to expectations. And always , always, some of you want to blame everything on VPM or renters, if we renters have a problem like this regarding rodens or bugs we call VPM and they send someone out immmediately.
It is the pools and spas that attract the wasps as it is a good water supply for them. I have friends who live in other parts of the desert and have the same problem. Anyone having a wasp problem should report it and have it dealt with on an individual basis. Working together as a Team we can resolve issues.

We never had a problem the first 2 years we owned here. It started last summer/fall and it definitely is tied to the number of nests in the complex. 20 some have already been found and there are probably 40 more.

The problem with the board is that majority do not live here and do not seem to care about much more than their investment. We are lucky that 2 full-time owners gotbon, and are trying to make things more open.

Individual owners can easily resolve this issue, if the nests are accessible. I had a nest in one of my patio light fixtures and went to HomeDepot and picked-up a spray that completely killed the wasps. However, I agree that the HOA should have regular checks of the complex by a reputable wasps exterminator. But can the HOA afford to do this?

The HOA needs to take the lead but when it was brought up at the meeting, most board members didn't care.
