MAY 20 UPDATE: Good news-bad news. As of last night, all the carts were gone from the median on Indian Canyon. Bad news: That one red cart with the big initials "VG" scrawled on it was at the corner, right by the Palermo sign! Miss Penny Lane continues to lament: Why must the beautiful Palermo complex put up with such ugliness? Who will be our savior? Who?
MAY 17 UPDATE: Well, we had one day without the shopping carts on Indian Canyon. Then they came back. There are three there right now, two from Ralphs.
ORIGINAL POST: More good news about removal the stolen shopping carts left on Indian Canyon median outside Palermo. Some carts are gone because of your calls. Two members of the Palm Springs City Council have responded (see their e-mails in earlier posts). Now City Manager David Ready has promised action. See his e-mail below. The recycling center on Oasis Road is attracting all these carts ( Palm Springs Recycling is at 280 W. Oasis Rd. Phone: 760-325-3377). There also carts on Oasis, some that look like they've been there for months such as the red one above from Trader Joe's. Miss Penny Lane says: It may be long haul, but together we can end this chronic problem.

Subject: shopping carts
Dear Ms. Lane,
Councilman Weigel asked me to contact you regarding the shopping cart issue – we have noticed that they have not been removed as per our rules; On Monday, I will have our Street Maintenance crew pick them up – and we will investigate why the stores have not had them removed.
Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of further assistance.
Regards,
David

Miss Penny Lane, thank you for the work on this and getting residents involved. It's a real show of community. The HOA cold aid in sending al letter to the city council and recycle center.
YES HOA get on board with this effort. We're doing something. I called Rite-AId about that blue cart!
Looks much better with the carts removed! Thanks Penny and everyone who calls about these issues for your efforts to keep Palermo beautiful and to spread our attitude of care for our community among our residents and beyond our walls and gates.
Last night when I came home late it look like the carts were all one? Are they?
Yes, all the carts are now off the median. There is one a bit farther up across the street still.
I'm afraid these carts will just come back (well, not the same one but new ones). What can be done to stop it permanently? Palermo resident should not have to continue to call.
The carts are back..... this will never end!
Drat, the carts came back. It is a losing battle.
I called some of the stores and nothing happens. Now that I am paying attention to the median the shopping carts are driving me crazy. I don't get why the stories won;t pick them up. Don't they cost a lot of money? The city should require locking devices so the wheels don't work once out of the parking lot. I have seen seen this in other places.
A cart is by the Palermo sign
The median was free of carts again this evening!
The median was free of them for another day.
Red cart still outside Palermo sign. Management, pick it p?
now the red cart has been moved 20 or 30 feet down San Rafael. Palermo managers can't just pick it up,but instead it's just moved down the road a bit?
The red cart is gone I think. But there are 3 more new carts in the center of Indian canyon as of Sunday nite. I do wish the property manager would just deal with this.
6 more carts out on Indian Canyon right now (Friday nite). HOA was told about this at the last meeting and has done WHAT?
There are like 7 carts there. Everyone needs to call AGAIN!!!!!
More carts are back. Time to call again. Repeated calls from different people help.
