Palermo is such a lovely place that people from across the U.S. and even Canada have invested in homes here. But now let's get to work. As a community we must do something about the stolen shopping carts left in the median on North Indian Canyon across from Palermo. A Palermo owner sent us this e-mail: "I called PS police department and they gave me this number: 800-252-4613. They are supposed to pick them up w/in 24 hours. I am sure you agree that it looks terrible and you wouldn't want your guests to see it." There were carts from Wal-Mart, TJMaxx, Dollar Tree and others there yesterday evening. But it turns out the service is spotty at best and doesn't pick up all carts from all stories.
UPDATE: A Palermo resident has helped solve part of the mystery about the shopping carts. See his post in the comments section. A nearby recycling center attracts people bringing carts full of cans. Palm Springs Recycling is at 280 W. Oasis Rd. Phone: 760-325-3377. Miss Penny Lane says: This business should help solve this ugly problem that mars a gateway to beautiful Palm Springs.

There's a rumor that the rescheduled HOA board meeting will be this coming Wednesday (May 13) evening. Anyone know about it?

called again about the carts. They want to know the stores because they don't pick up from all stores. anyone know who to call if this service doesn't come or only takes some?
Palermo management (or is the developers) need to fix that fence. Bebe must see it everyday but does nothing for the boys in Chi-town. Great sales tool for people looking to buy here now or later.
It's going to be so great when the College of the Desert opens nearby and the other redevelopment planned, and Palermo will be the jewel of the area. Wish I could buy another one at these prices. Long-term great investment. No where else in Palm Springs with more potential.
Is there HOA meeting set yet. Why don't they ever tell us anything, post notices, send out agendas. Frustrating.
Penny, I can't stand the carts either. That 800-252-4613 number is for the California Shopping Cart Removal Corp. - www.cscrc.net - they handle all the big companies - Ralphs, TJs, Wal-Mart, Alberstons, Stater Bros, Target. A list of their clients is at www.cscrc.net/customers.asp - They are supposed to pick them up in 24-48 hours. I've also called some of the stores directly - Wal-Mart at 760-322-3906, TJMaxx at 760-322-0162 and Longs Drugs (now CVS), and only CVS promised to do something.

Several residents say they have called but some shopping carts remain. It seems the pick-up service only takes carts for retail chains it contracts with. Miss Penny Lane asks: Does anyone else have an idea or solution to this problem?
today I noticed people pushing carts on Indian Canyon from Palm Springs, with what appeared to be bags of aluminum cans and plastic bottles. I also saw homeless people pushing carts in this directions as well. I do not know how they find their way to the island in the middle of the street. But I suppect there is a recyling center nearby and folks bring their cans and bottles get paid and then discard the carts. There may also be a homeless shelter nearby as I see almost daily people pushing their carts somewhere. Actually saw a woman take her things from a small black cart behind Julians Market and put her things into a larger silver cart and stroll on. So I believe this explains how the carts are arriving outside our gates. How to resolve it is another issue. Why are they being put in the center island also a mystery.
Walked out there today. The carts from Wal-Mart, Longs (CVS) and Dollar Tree are gone - been pick-up. But there still are carts from TJMAXX, Rite-Aid and a mystery one. Also there was one on the other side of the street.
It looks like there's a new round of carts out there as well. One is in the street because of the wind. Traffic hazard. Think the people from U-Haul are moving some to the median to get them out of their space. Real mess. Ugly ugly.

The city government also is to blame to allowing it to happen. I know the store owners are the victims of these thefts but they also are responsible to watching and retrieving the carts. The 800 number the city gives out isn't any good, and the carts just keep coming. There's also a Walmart cart just down the side street. Never stops. Should this recycling center be fined, for aiding and abetting, or encouraging this? HELP!
Now all those carts are knocked over from the wind. Really pretty.
The green fence is falling down in at least 4 places. The HOA board should be ashamed that it isn't keeping it up (literally).
The HOA board is not responsible for the green fence, the developer is. There's another part over by the cement pond that is rip/blowing in the wind.
Just fix the fence, what's the big deal?!
