Bye-bye curb-side trash service at Palermo
Positively Palermo has received a bunch of emails with news from the HOA meeting or questions about what happened. We will be posting all of them over the week. One report says that the HOA decided to do away with curbside trash and recycling service. Instead, the HOA will add two more community trash bins, along with recycling bins, in new enclosures. The cost of these enclosures supposedly would be paid for in the first year because the dumpster-only service is so much cheaper than the combined cost of current curb-side service for 117 units and the two community dumpsters already here. It was reported at the meeting at on some days not even 40 units are putting out cans on trash day. The following years the HOA would be saving $20,000 a year because of the change, it was said by Brandi Scott of DRM. It is still not known where these new community trash bins would be going. Miss Penny Lane says: Her neighbors will no longer get to see her rush out in the morning in her night gown when putting out her cans before the trash truck arrives.

I am soooo tired of people leaving thier trash and recycle containers outside for days. One place on Penny Lane still has theirs out since Monday. Most of the offenders at bank-owned it looks like. Some people still still ignorant that recycling is only on Thursday and these people put out the blue recycle cans onMonday and leave them out until Thursday. DRM allows this, why?
Where r the dumpsters going?
I am a renter and curb side service is in my lease and even I am glad the cans are going. Takes up room in the garage and gives the garage a bad smell. My fat butt could use a little walk to the bin every once in a while.
I don't use my trash can just because just like above I can't stand the smell of keeping it in the garage. We also all need to recycle everything else. Some needs to tell new people here that. Some new ones on Melody moved in and stuffed the community bins full of cardboard and other recyclables. Love your Mother Earth and follow the rules on recycling.
Recycling might be a whole lot easier once there are decicated dumpsters.
Yes!! Get rid of the trashcan clutter!
So sad. I am in the minority but I think this is a bad decision. The pick-ups are going to end before the new dumpster sites are chosen let alone built. In the meantime, there are regular complaints about the overflowing dumpsters even with the curb side pick-ups. This will only get worse. Hopefully the rat population won't explode. Of course when it does I will be posting a "I told you so;)"
Notwithstanding my disagreement,I support the work of the Board and their efforts to keep Palermo the great development it is.
I am so glad to get rid of these eyesores on the streets twice a week with the lids blown off - that is where the trash in the streets is partly coming from, from in the brown trash cans with no lids. And then they the cans also blow into the streets. What a mess.
New VPM renter with kids letting the kid throw balls arounds in the clubhouse and play on the gym equipment. Really?
I would hope you said something to the kid/parent. VPM does not monitor the clubhouse you know.
VPM should tell its clients the rules though.
I think even it this "experiment" with the the trash turns out wrong and we need to go back to street service, the expensive of building the new enclosures will be worth it because -- it is crazy only to have two dumpsters and have them both on the north side of the complex. We need some on the south side, and this will get that done. good investment whatever happens.
It's going to be much more convenient for me once this switch happens and a new enclosure is more near us. I hate the cans, putting them out, finding them blown over when I get home. One can rolling around on the street hit a neighbor's car and he says dented it. I hate feeling guilty if I use the dumpsters for my trash because I have smelly stuff.
We don't need kids running around in the clubhouse.
HOA needs to get on that if we have parents letting kids running amok in the clubhouse. It's not a daycare facility. Michael?
To 11:33, second that. This place is not set up over kids so whys the bank renting to so many? Please parents read the rules and follow them if you decide you want to live here because it's so beautiful even though it isn't setup for kids.
So the parent is letting the kid just bang the ball all over the clubhouse? Can we charge the bank for any damage?
This wasn't sold as a kid community. Not set up for it. Parents, control your kids and no damage. And don't complain when I kiss by boyfriend in the hot tub, baby.
While there may not be a children's playground, I don't understand the assertions that Palermo was supposed to be an "adult community" or is "not set up for kids". Most of the homes have 2+ bedrooms and have secured back yards which make them just fine for kids. And if they're potty trained, the kids are just fine in the pool.
@ 7:20pm Nov 19; as for kissing your boyfriend in the hot tub - if that's what makes your day, get yourself a unit with a private hot tub in your back yard.
It was marketed as an adult lifestyle community.
So weird when renters with no ties to Palermo come in and try tell the owners how to operate the place.
I think all the people with young kids are not owners but renters. Of course, someone can buy where they want but is it wise to rent in a place to set up for it? A litle girl on bike today went through a stop sign. We have no sidewalks, no playground. Common sense folks.
So i can't kiss my guy in the hot tub without being told to get a room but some toddler can pooped in the hot tub. One who looks just out of diapers was in the back spa the other night.
