Be kind to the HOA and Mother Nature, turn off the clubhouse lights

Positively Palermo received this thoughtful e-mail: "Miss Penny, Quick Question: (Recently) there were 3-4 young couples out enjoying the clubhouse and pool/hot tub, and I noticed on my way to work this morning that all of the clubhouse lights, gym lights and big screen TV were on. I'm assuming that they were left on all night. So, could we ask Maxwell Security to possibly turn them off when they are making their late night pass? They are supposed to check the doors when they do their sweep, right? Just a thought. Finally, do you think that a tasteful sign above the light switches encouraging the user to turn the lights off after use would help? I realize this is a remedial request of the user … but some just don’t seem to 'get it' nowadays. Thanks!" Miss Penny Lane says: She turns off her lights because she hates to change the bulbs, after once falling off a ladder when climbing it in her high heels to replace one.

Common sense. Turn off the lights and TV people. They must be the short term vacation renters on Sunburst.

There are several weekly type vacation rentals on Sunburst. Is there a number of the city to call to see if they have a permit and are paying taxes (it's a misdemeanor if they are not under city code). And if they are doing weeklies, they are in violation of the CC and R's. Why is Brandi allowing this to happen here when it violates the CC and R's?????

I thought this thread was about conserving energy by "turning off the lights." In a perfect world, the people who last used the clubhouse would have turned everything off but perhaps all of us can step up and turn the lights off if we see them on. to postings 10:12 & 1:39am: Please don't abuse this blog with your negative, non-productive bashing. Come up with solutions rather than finger pointing.

Why not have the HOA change out the light switches with motion sensors. Cheap to install and it turns off the lights when no one is in the building. Easy fix!

Why is 5:47 so negative?

Motion sensors make sense. But make sure that stay on longer enough.

Yes, always the witch hunt over short term rentals. Is it technically illegal if not done to the letter of the law? Sure! Do you spend your time trying to make sure people pay every penny of their income taxes though also?

Short term rentals probably cause 1/1000th of the problems our community faces right now. Give it a rest.

Now that the lights are off maybe we could have a weekley sex party

The CC&Rs don't allow anything under 30 day rentals. I bought here knowing that protection was in place. Nearly all condo complexes in PS have this because of the problems it lead to. Frankly, saying there "are bigger problems" is the argument of a weak mind because it doesn't mean we should not and cannot address a serious quality of life issue. I suggest we all begin to notify the city. There is at least one illegal rental on Melody (the one that advertised sleeping 10 people in the unit) and at least four illegal rentals on Sunburst. Enterprise has one. The city will be noticed that they aren't collecting a hotel bed tax and the HOA will be notified about breaking the CC&Rs.
