The buzz on wasps

Positively Palermo received this e-mail. It reads: "Hi Penny Lane, I was hoping you can post this on the Palermo blog. We have noticed many wasps in our back yard since last fall. They continually land on our pool water which makes using the pool impossible at times. We are hanging a trap we bought at home depot but not sure if that will work. I think Palermo has an exterminator and I left a msg for Brandy to see if they can find the nest(s) and destroy them. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Thanks Penny for a GREAT blog that keeps us informed on what is going on in Palermo especially when we are home." We received a report last year from a renter in the area Melody Lane and Breeze Loop of wasps. Miss Penny Lane says: She's been known to run down the street waiving her bonnet to shoo off a wasp or two.

Wasps...yep...had 'em and they're still buzzing 'round. I had a nest in my outside light fixture on my upstairs patio, and a nest on the underside of the fascia on my north side upstairs as well. The nest on the north side was exterminated by my neighbor, who also has a pool and couldn't use it because of the nest hanging above. I exterminated the nest in my light fixture with a wasp foam from Lowes.

I have one near our place on sunburst and so does my neighbor.

I had the last two years. I sprayed the nest down with the water hose. Do it in the evening when they aren't so active.

So, it sounds like this is an association problem that needs to be booted-up to DRM. Whether the current pest control company can take care of an inspection/extermination community-wide, or whether a specialist needs to be called-in, someone needs to report this to the Board of Directors for discussion on the next agenda, or if it is an immediate safety concern for some residents, Brandi Scott at DRM needs to be notified. bscott@drminternet.com

I talked to Brandi and Terra at DRM and they are sending the new exterminator to look for and destroy wasps nests. If you are aware of one please let DRM know it's location so the exterminator can destroy it. One landed on me in the pool the other day cutting my swim very short.
